CC Bäuml uses two Fliegl dollies to handle specialised transport operations: “We transport very heavy components for wind turbines, and some of these have to be hauled up steep inclines. Even with heavy-duty tractors, you reach your limits there,” says Andreas Michl, who is responsible for towing aids at CC Bäuml. The solution lies in ex-German Armed Forces heavy-duty transporters from Faun; with 8x8 drive and 950 hp, the trucks can tackle almost any gradient – with the attached Fliegl dolly and the components on a semi-trailer in tow. “Fliegl was able to deliver quickly and adapt the drawbars to our requirements,” says Michl. The special drawbar is angled and length-adjustable; the pipes and cables are not routed through the drawbar but underneath it. In addition, the fifth-wheel plate was offset at the customer’s request.
In addition to the two dollys, a reinforced jumbo flatbed semi-trailer and, for the past three years, a TPS 118 construction trailer from Fliegl have been in use for CC Bäuml. The company recently ordered another flatbed trailer – a TPS 118 with additional stanchion pockets. “We use that for standard freight transport, for example for steel plates,” says Andreas Michl. With an unladen weight of just 2,600 kilograms, the tandem trailer offers a payload of 9,200 kilograms; the loading area is 6,200 millimetres long. The floor consists of 30-millimetre-thick screen-printed panels made from particularly durable Finnish timber; the side panels are made from 25-millimetre-thick aluminium hollow sections, which can be folded down and easily removed.
Andreas Michl places great importance on good lighting, which is why the two work lights at the rear are supplemented by two further spotlights mounted on the sides. Fliegl ensures optimum load securing: lashing straps can be hooked into the slightly sloping outer frame with a Load-Lock profile; in addition, 8 lashing eyes, each with a tensile strength of 5,000 kilograms, are embedded in the outer frame. The hot-dip galvanised plug-in stanchions can be positioned in the 10 stanchion pockets embedded in the centre of the floor.
The drawbar can be adjusted by 250 millimetres in height to accommodate different towing vehicles. As with every Fliegl vehicle, the axles of the TPS 118 are laser-measured and precisely adjusted, which lowers rolling resistance, reduces tyre wear and cuts fuel consumption.
In heavy-duty transport, the vehicles do not cover very many kilometres, but they must be particularly reliable. The dollys’ hot-dip galvanisation with additional passivation ensures a long service life; a 15-year warranty against perforation speaks for itself.
