Sometimes things need to happen very quickly: a construction company needs a low-loader within 48 hours, a haulage firm urgently needs a new curtain-sided semi-trailer following an accident, or a waste management company lands a major contract and needs to expand its fleet quickly. In all these cases, Fliegl can help with vehicles from stock or second-hand vehicles.
Jessica Brettschneider from Fliegl’s own rental company, RPS Trailer Rental, has noticed a shift in purchasing behaviour in practice: “Whilst many companies used to order only custom-configured new vehicles, short-term availability is becoming increasingly important today.” In line with this, a wide selection of new trailers and semi-trailers is always available at the Fliegl plant in Triptis, including 3- and 4-axle low-loader trailers in various designs, container trailers for the waste management sector, as well as classic curtain-sided or flatbed semi-trailers.
The biggest advantage of stock vehicles, whether new or used, is obvious: they can be put to use immediately and generate revenue. “Transport capacity often needs to be available when the market demands it, for example during short-term peaks in orders, seasonal work such as during harvest time, or for tenders with short lead times,” explains Brettschneider. Even if a vehicle is out of action for a longer period due to accident damage, a stock vehicle can be the right choice. Used vehicles are also an affordable entry-level solution for start-ups looking to avoid high initial investment costs.
All Fliegl stock vehicles offer standardised, tried-and-tested equipment. However, modifications are possible if required, for example regarding load securing points, which Fliegl can retrofit at the factory. Customers sometimes have a choice of colour too: some vehicles are produced galvanised and unpainted; after purchase, the customer can choose a colour and the vehicle is then painted.
Returned rental vehicles combine cost-effectiveness with quality
Fliegl’s used vehicles are professionally maintained former rental vehicles with a transparent vehicle history. Maintenance, servicing and inspections are documented; wear parts are checked and replaced where necessary – all vehicles are immediately ready for a second life. Fliegl knows its used vehicles, and customers benefit from this: all components are familiar and tried-and-tested, and spare parts are in stock and readily available. In particular, turntable trailers and curtain-sided semi-trailers are currently available for immediate collection.
Although Fliegl can manufacture all ordered new vehicles quickly thanks to modern production facilities, delivery can sometimes take several weeks or months. This waiting time can be avoided with a stock or used vehicle. Material shortages and the resulting potential price increases and longer delivery times, such as those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, are no longer an issue for customers thanks to stock vehicles. In this way, Fliegl enables reliable investment planning. At the same time, every vehicle that continues to be used extends its product life cycle and saves resources that would be required for a complete new production run – this is another aspect of sustainability.

INNOVATING FOR YOU: Sustainable production, sustainable vehicles
Fliegl prioritises sustainability right from the start in the manufacture of trailers and semi-trailers for the construction, haulage and logistics sectors. Design, production and assembly all take place at a single central site, eliminating the need for CO₂-emitting transport between worksites over long distances. Fliegl’s modern trailer plant in Thuringia has a positive energy balance – electricity production exceeds its own consumption. Fliegl operates two combined heat and power plants and has installed large-scale photovoltaic systems; heating is provided by wood chips and waste wood.
The vehicles are painted in a highly efficient, resource-saving facility; energy-intensive baking processes are not required. To further reduce energy consumption, Fliegl has invested in pulse welding machines and fibre laser systems and has completely converted the hall lighting to LED. The new high-bay warehouse feeds the energy used back into the cycle. When purchasing vehicle components, Fliegl ensures that full truckloads are procured, so that deliveries are always made at optimal capacity.
Fliegl’s vehicle concepts are based on a sustainable product philosophy. Lightweight construction is a top priority, enabling Fliegl to achieve best-in-class trailer weights – to the benefit of payload and CO₂ emissions. The Fliegl Quick Lock System enhances aerodynamics on curtain-sided trailers. It does not require any protruding locking buckles, resulting in a completely flat tarpaulin surface. Fliegl tipper trailers are built as standard with an aerodynamic conical body and a curved chassis featuring a rounded, extremely flat frame neck – the tipper does not protrude beyond the tractor unit. Wind deflectors and the innovative membrane rear wall also reduce air resistance. Only Fliegl adjusts the track of every trailer individually and precisely using a laser – for lower rolling resistance and reduced tyre wear. Fliegl’s twin-axle curtain-sided semi-trailers significantly reduce fuel consumption and toll costs compared to three-axle models.
Ecology and sustainability – Fliegl Trailer takes it seriously. Fliegl Trailer was awarded the German Sustainability Prize 2016 for its holistic approach to resource efficiency.
